Watching a slow death

James Baldwin quote_1.001

Baldwin continues, “…people have deluded themselves for so long that they really don’t think I am human …. And this means that they have become … moral monsters.”

I was eight when James Baldwin spoke these words. Now, in 2019, I feel as if I’ve spent my life watching a slow death. The pulse of justice has gotten weaker. The voices of racism and injustice have grown stronger, especially in recent days.

Standing silently by and watching the death of our nation’s heart is unacceptable. I feel guilt for the times I’ve passively accepted the status quo, or failed to recognize the subtle discrimination that lowers some and elevates others. I’ve often been silent when I should have spoken. I must not be silent anymore! It’s time to revive our nations heart. ~Kindly
