“I wonder what Jesus thinks about Christmas?”

Danny Tate was one of my talented musician friends during our college years. His song from just a couple of years ago asks a very good question.

I’m stunned at how incompatible the pictures in my head are with anything approaching what might have been the historically vivid “rebel” Jesus. Having spent many years “speaking” to my distorted understanding of Jesus, I now blush with embarrassment that I attempted to pray at all.

John Pavlovitz expresses part of what seems to tug at my thoughts about Christmas.  “Christianity as it is currently constructed in America cannot peaceably coexist with the Jesus of the scriptures; with the truth of the baby in the center of the Nativity”

So, at least for this year, these are my two Christmas hymns. Merry Christmas…
